We have 50+ vehicles on the road inspecting jobs every day.

Southern California is not known for rainy weather but when it does rain for the few days out of the year, it comes in heavy! We are blessed to live in a beautiful place where the sun is always shining but because of that we do not really prepare ourselves and our properties for the potential damage that a rainstorm can bring. Storms show us the faulty roof tiles, and potential bad workmanship of the home in general. Sadly the only way to know these faults exist is for a rain water leak to show you. As long as SERVPRO gets out there as soon as possible to address to issue early on, it will be less damage to the home and get the home back to working condition quickly.

Most Fires Start in the Kitchen.

It only takes seconds for a grease fire to spread rapidly throughout the room and eventually house if it is not stopped in time.

Who knew cooking in your kitchen could turn into this? This tenant in Escondido was planning to have a peaceful dinner at the rental property before this situation occurred. It's important to always be prepared for the worst in the event that this happens. It can happen to anyone but there are ways you can be more prepared for it. Always keep clutter out of the kitchen. Wipe down all surfaces in the kitchen including floors and walls so there are no flammable spills or layers of film for the fire to catch onto easily. Keep baking soda in reach of the stove top to throw on any open flames. Baking soda cuts off the oxygen supply to a fire similar to a fire extinguisher. In the case the fire is not tamable immediately call your local fire department and evacuate the premises. Wind & Water Storm Damage

Strong wind currents can tear roofing and exterior walls off of homes especially when the material is weakened by water damage first.

When living in southern California, sometimes a storm can come out of nowhere. Just like this past week the wind was intense and sending trees, bushes and household items flying around the yard. Wind storms like this can cause a lot of damage to properties. Damage from objects or brush flying into properties windows or walls.

House Fire Cleanups.

Our team always has the proper PPE for fire cleanups.

Fires can be scary and they leave behind a lot of damage. Here are some tips you can do while waiting for help to arrive to your property.

Do:

• Limit movement in the property.
• Keep hands clean because soot can ruin upholstery and walls. 
• If electricity is off, empty freezer and refrigerator completely to prevent odors.
• Wipe away soot from chrome on kitchen and bathroom faucets, trim and appliances.
• Leave HVAC system off until a professional can check it.

Don’t:

• Attempt to wash walls or clean upholstery before contacting SERVPRO of Carlsbad.
• Attempt to clean any electrical appliances because you may cause further damage.
• Consume any food or beverages that were stored close to the fire.
• Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet. Wiring may be wet or damaged and cause electrical shock.

In the middle of the early morning in San Diego a pipe burst and flooded a 13-story high rise in downtown. All of the occupants were evacuated and SERVPRO was called out to access the damage. The entire building was flooded. The elevators stopped working and the water that was sitting in between working on floors began growing mold. This was a huge commercial mess. SERVPRO was able to pull together all the local large loss teams and get it handled. Our team members worked two shifts around the 24 hour clock. Every single condominium needed drying out and demo whether it was minimal or not. Some even needed mold remediation. It was a long process but we were able to get the job done and leave the building manager a happy man. This is proof that there is no job too big for us to handle. Oh my QUAD, A Flood!

Our team got the show floor cleaned up quickly so customers could continue shopping for this business!

This business walked into a pool of water in the early morning. 

The commercial building is right down the street from our office so we were able to begin removing water within 15-20 minutes of the phone call.

Our guys had the business back to normal in just a couple hours so customers were not interrupted during their shopping trip. 

We have a large team so we are able to get to jobs quicker and start sooner than other companies. 

Since we were able to begin extracting quickly, none of the merchandise was affected and the business didn't have to spend money on any lost products.

Prepare for Storms!

We are proudly ran by veterans of the USMC.

In Southern California you never know what to expect from the weather. One day it's 100 degrees and the next morning it's 49 degrees.

Although they try to predict the weather, it's never 100% accurate and it's best to always be prepared for storms. 

Homeowners can spend nicer days making sure their property is prepared for catastrophes ahead of time so when they strike, the damage is hopefully lesser.

If you discover a roof leak, fix it as soon as you can before the next storm hits. Make sure you have proper drains set up to steer water away from your home and prevent flooding. Cut back or down trees that are leaning and could potentially be blown into your home. Be sure to put away patio furniture and bring umbrellas down when the winds begin to pick up so they are not blown into windows. There are many tips that can help you prepare your home better for a storm. The less damage done by a storm, the less money spent fixing it!

Our teams are always dressed to impress!

We are falling back into time and fall in November. November days mean storms will be approaching before we know it. The days are shorter which means the weather gets cooler. Cooler weather can be accompanied by wind and rain. I know we don't get too many wild storms in sunny San Diego, but when they do hit, they tend to hit hard. It's best to take precautions and prepare for the worst when the weather is at it's best. A lot of insurance policies require you to make a claim right away if there was any damage from flooding so it's important that you make that call to your insurance sooner than later. That way our team can get to work quicker and you can have your property back to normal sooner.

Know what to expect from your insurance by reading your policy again from time to time. Have the knowledge before an accident happens.

Grease Fires

Kitchen fires start easily and spread FAST

Tips for containing a grease fire:

• Turn off the heat.
• Cover the flames with a metal lid or baking pan.
• For smaller flames, you can smother it with baking soda.
• Larger flames can be put out with a fire extinguisher.
• Do not pour water on the flames.
• Do not try to move the pan anywhere.

If you are not able to extinguish the fire quickly and it begins to spread, get out of the home immediately.

Call 911 once you are in a safe place outside the home.

Do not go back inside for anything until firefighters contain the fire completely.

You can prevent kitchen fires from happening by not leaving open flames unattended.

Keep flammable items away from flames.

Heat things at a lower flame setting especially when cooking with oil.

Keep these tips in mind when using heat sources in the home.

The last thing you would think to happen indoors is pouring rain, right? Isn't that what roofs are for, to keep the weather OUTSIDE.

Unfortunately incidents such as broken indoor sprinkler heads and pipes bursting are more common than you would think. Some piping is older, weaker and sometimes some were just done wrong. There is no way to predict when an incident will occur but you can be more prepared or avoid water damage by holding safety meetings on proper operations of equipment so that they do not hit sprinklers above such as forklifts. Plane AWESOME.

Even planes need a deep cleaning sometimes, our team was there to rescue the day and get this plane back in service promptly.

This is not your usual job but we got called in to work on an airplane at our local Carlsbad airport!! In the very early morning our green van drove up on the tarmac to meet the airplane staff. The plane had bio hazard issues and needed to be cleaned stat so passengers could load up on it later that morning. Our project manager and crew chief showed up with equipment ready to work at 3AM. Now that's what we call dedication! Our team is full of strong leaders like that and we are so happy to have them on our team. We do it all, water, fire, mold and trauma cleanup & restoration. We love our community!

We sponsored a pizza dinner for the local elementary school.

Our SERVPRO loves to give back to the community when we are able to. For example in this picture our team members are serving pizza, salad and cookies to the kindergartners and their parents for a literacy group. The literacy group focuses on teaching the parents ways that they can help their children learn to read better at home that way they are better prepared for future school requirements. We try our best to participate in local events or donate our time in some way. We are here for our community and our customers. It was such a joy to be apart of this event and seeing the smile on each kids face as they walked into a room full of pizza, cookies and school supplies.

Power shutoffs to prevent fires.

Fires can easily start when lightning strikes power lines.

We are in fire season and the wind is starting to pick up while temperatures drop. SD&E issued a map of California with a list of potential cities power to be shut off in the case of higher winds. So if the winds start to blow too hard the power is going to be shut off in certain cities to avoid power lines blowing over and starting fires. Every year the cities take more precautions to avoid devastating fires. Last year in Vista a power line fell and blocked Buena Creek road for hours. Not only was the power out but the traffic was not able to drive through as well. Make sure that you have a solid fire escape route set in the case of an emergency! 

By turning off the power, they are able to help control fires from starting due to storm damage.
